What It Takes!!!
Today is winter. Current temperature is 10 degrees. It is very cold here. This is a tough time for taking care of our wonderful dogs. During this time we have had to haul water by hand down the hill since all the dog water containers are frozen solid. Can you see Peggy and I, in our 70's, lugging 2- 5 gallon buckets of water at a time down the hill?
Of course we also have to haul 50# bags of dog food down the hill as well.
During some winters the ice is so bad here that we have to hold on to enclosure fencing in order to get to the dogs. Now, can you see us hauling dog food and 5 gallon buckets of water when there is a coating of ice on the ground? Today, as an example, the temperature is 9 degrees F. Burrrrrrr!
Each of our dog areas are spacious, clean and comfortable for each dog. They live, play and run on solid ground. No way do they live on a wire mesh. Each night all our dogs are put into their safe, warm enclosure. Early in the AM we let them out of their sleeping quarters.
See our main collie male Ranger standing in his shed. Also, see the pxs of the sheds and large areas for our Poodles and Shih-Tzu's.

Taking good care of our wonderful dogs and puppies can be, for sure, very demanding. Why do we do this? Because we love and enjoy every one of our friends here. This is why we do "What it takes".
Also, what it takes!!!
Last night was another tough one. Let me explain.
Last Saturday one of our toy yorkie females gave birth to 3 puppies---2 males and 1 female. Almost immediately. the mother tossed aside one of the little males. It did not make it. On Sunday we noticed she was pushing the other 2 puppies aside as well. These 2 puppies were about doomed. What could we do?
We do what it takes!! We took the 2 little ones up into our kitchen and put them under a heat lamp in a box with a warm cozy blanket to lay on. We put a doll in the box so these special ones will have a presence. No one likes to be alone, even little puppies.
Now, every 3 hours since Sunday we have been feeding these 2 little ones with a special puppy milk mix. As I say last night like the last 4 nights was tough. Getting up at 1 and 5 AM is tough on us. We love these little puppies and will do the best we can to save their lives. They deserve our best shot.
A tough one!!!
A week ago I noticed our smallest female poodle feeling bad off in a corner. Good thing I noticed! I picked her up and found she was in the process of delivering. This was a tough situation. The puppy was breach and DOA and stuck in there. It was a huge white poodle puppy. For a 1/2 hour I slowly pulled this puppy out of her. It would hardly move. The poor mother was understandably in pain. I was not about to let her and her puppy die right then and there, however. You see I love her. Finally I was able to get the huge dead puppy removed from the mother. Once done she gave me a wonderful smile of thanks. Glad to do it for you dear.
